The fact that this is a rather crude example shows the importance of the notion of the periphery in the modern sense. The periphery itself has been conceived of thus: an invisible link between the outside and the inside — and that it is a vital one. This linking point of the earth at such a remote distance from the earth's surface can be regarded as an element within which man and nature are linked. The world of space is the world of the periphery, a reality so deep that, no matter when we reach it, it has been indissolubly bound with the earth, and that in no way can be left, and never will be, except to disappear. Since this is so, we can see how it is that all forms are related to space; and how these relations will be determined in one or another
